Reading Notes

Chapter One : Getting Organized for Writing

  • The four components in public relations are: research, planning, communication, and evaluation.  From these four components PR Writing is part of the communication component which does not happen until there has been research and planning .
  • A computer is very important to a public relations writer.  Writers can choose from laptops, desktops, an Apple or a PC.
  • Word choice is very important in PR Writing.   Avoid using hype words or exaggerating things to avoid losing credibility.
  • Avoid Stereotypes.  Using adjectives like ” feminine,” “cute,” and “masculine” does not paint an accurate picture.  These adjectives are biased to what the reader feels.
  • It is important to check the meaning of words.  Sometimes there are just simple mistakes but taking the extra step to check words and spelling will help to avoid  mistakes.

Notes and reading are from the textbook Public Relations Writing and Media Techniques, Sixth Edition by Dennis Wilcox.
