Chapter Four: Finding and Making News

  1. It is important for a public relations programs to create publicity for their clients.  Effective publicist need to be familiar with three things: 1) traditional journalistic values, 2) where to find news and how to pick an interesting angle, and 3) they need to be creative problem solvers that can deliver effective messages.
  2. There are eight basic news values: timeliness, prominence, proximity, significance, unusualness, human interest, conflict and newness.
  3. When creating news for your client or organization it is important to familiarize and learn about them.
